U18s cricket often marks the transition to senior cricket for many players.

Here at Meanwood our U18s squad is also where young players can hone their cricketing technique, build their confidence and importantly have fun playing cricket.

Our Aims & Approach

We use a combination of game-based play, the latest coaching tools and ECB approved exercises to help players improve the consistency of their game.

There is also a strong focus on developing a One Team culture – building a team ethos on the training ground that will help the players in match situations, and in life, as they mark this transition time to young adult.

“He really loves playing. Cricket is his biggest passion… We're so thankful to have you all investing in our child.”

—U18s Parent

As a club committed to the development of young players from grass roots upwards, there is an opportunity to work with younger age groups as a volunteer (with the appropriate checks). Many players use their experience as a player and/or volunteer towards both vocational qualifications and awards such as the Duke of Edinburgh.

During all the time a player is at Meanwood, we will look to encourage the following aspects of cricket:

  • Teamwork – cheering on each other, shrugging off mistakes and not criticising them.

  • Respect – to each other, to coaches and other volunteers, to the other team and to the umpires

  • Leadership – we like our players to make on field decisions, we are not coaches that will over coach, though if there is something obvious a suggestion will be made

  • Support – respect starts with our supporters, please encourage and applaud good play by both teams! Let the players on the field make the decision, they will learn more – especially when it comes to running between the wickets. There is nothing more confusing for a player than someone on the sideline shouting RUN! Inevitably, they get the message too late and get themselves run out.
